ENIGMA Museum Website
How do you translate the history of communication into a website design? This was the initial challenge when we started our long-term partnership with ENIGMA – Museum of Post, Tele, and Communication.
The museum has moved to an historic post office building located in the heart of Østerbro, Copenhagen. The new location features four new exhibition and activity spaces, including an active arcade and a large digital playground for children, opening in February 2023.
The design concept for the website draws inspiration from ENIGMA's strong visual identity which reflects the core of the museum and the brand's fluidity: communication. The website is a tribute to the evolution of communication mediums and acts as an extension of the museum's mission to showcase the history and impact of communication.
Challenging the traditional
The website is a showdown against conventional, symmetric, and smoothly-scrolling modern websites. The layout is (intentionally) imperfect – tending towards chaotic – with a layering effect created by incorporating illustrations, background videos, various forms of media, and interactive elements.
